About Me

I am an Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP Accred) and also a registered independent counsellor with the United Kingdom Register of Counsellors (UKRC). I am a qualified and experienced practitioner who is covered by professional indemnity insurance and who always works according to the ethical framework and guidelines set out by the BACP. In accordance with best practice, I regularly attend professional training courses and workshops as an ongoing commitment to my development and training as a therapist.

I have over twenty years of experience working within a counselling environment and over twenty years experience in working with young people, children and parents in many different settings, including schools. As a counsellor I have experience in working with charities, agencies, schools and private practice. In my work with schools and local education authorities I run group sessions with the involvement of CAMHS, give help and support and produce various training and support materials for teachers and professionals. I also have a keen interest in attachment work and have run workshops and given talks on my attachment work and theories.

I primarily offer 'Psychodynamic' counselling but sometimes it can be helpful or appropriate to use alternative approaches such as CBT. I will always endeavour to offer you the best and most appropriate therapy according to your need and preference.

The counselling I offer is usually open-ended counselling where the number of sessions that we have together is not fixed at the beginning, though in certain circumstances it is possible to arrange fixed-term counselling whereby we work towards and ending over a set period of time. In open-ended counselling we will conduct ongoing reviews within your counselling work and process.

Sessions are normally about fifty minutes long, with one session per week, though both of these may be varied according to your need.

Counselling is strictly confidential and is subject the the constraints of English law and ethical practice.

I normally see clients face-to-face, though I'd be happy to consider other arrangements. For example, I may be able to offer telephone counselling or counselling via Skype. Give me a call and I will always do my best to accommodate your needs.
